Do you maybe have a few unanswered questions about floor sanding and finishing in Horsham RH12? This is probably so, and here we’ve drawn up a short list of the ones we’ve most often come across. Don’t worry if your question isn’t on the list – drop us a line and we’ll be delighted to answer it for you.
WHY NOT DO THE WORK MYSELF USING MY DIY SKILLS?
You’ll need a bit more time than a Sunday afternoon to carry out a good floor sanding job! You can hire a machine and just go for it, but we don’t recommend it. We’ve seen too many floors that have fallen victim to the have-a-go approach and they are not pretty, believe us!
BUT THE LOCAL HIRE SHOP'S DOING A SPECIAL OFFER ON FLOOR SANDERS...
Hired sanders are usually older models that don’t effectively retain the dust and so there’ll be lots of mess to clear up afterwards. Also, they will almost certainly be poorly maintained simply because they’re always out ‘on the road’ and so even if you’re brilliant at DIY you’ll be limited by the quality of your main tool.
The Horsham floor sanding team uses cutting-edge sanders that are excellently maintained to always give the very best results, as well as retain all the dust produced. So to get a beautifully smooth result you should call in the Horsham floor sanding and finishing experts every time.
HOW LONG WILL THE WORK TAKE?
If your floor is of average size, such as a kitchen, bedroom or hallway, you can safely allow a day for us to do the repairs and sanding parts of the job, which are necessary to prepare the floor for taking the finish. Applying the finish will then take a further day and you’ll need to leave the floor alone for about two days after that for the finish to cure properly.
Bear in mind that if your floor is in a particularly poor state it may take a bit longer to repair it. You will however be kept fully informed on all such matters, and before we come in with the sanders you’ll know exactly how long the job will take us.
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE MESS?
When we first started out in the business, the sanding machines created a lot of dust as they stripped away the top layers of the floorboards. They still do this, of course, but the difference is that designs have advanced a great deal and now most of the dust is retained in special sacks attached to the kit.
Dust production is therefore minimal as far as your rooms are concerned, and we clean up thoroughly at the end of the job anyway. Other rooms are also sealed off as we progress around the property, so you needn’t worry about being left with any mess at all.
CAN YOU REALLY RESTORE MY GRIMY OLD FLOOR ? IT'S BEYOND HOPE, SURELY!
Many customers think that their wooden flooring is so beyond redemption that they’re probably better off just laying down a new one on top of it. The purpose of the initial on-site assessment is to check the condition of your flooring and decide how it should be treated.
We’ve found through long experience that the grime and old, dried paint that make a wooden floor look so awful when you lift the carpets are usually providing an effective seal, protecting the fresh wood underneath. All it takes to restore the floor to pristine condition is to strip away these top dirty layers and get the fresh floorboards ready for applying a stain or other finish and look fabulous again.
ARE BARE FLOORBOARDS SUITABLE FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS?
Microscopic dust mites are responsible for exacerbating the symptoms of a number of allergies. They live and breed in fitted carpets and feed on the human skin scales which make up most of the dust that settles on everything in a household. By removing the carpets and sealing the wood you’re removing their natural habitat, breeding ground and food source and they’ll have to relocate.
Having your boards sanded and finished by the Horsham floor sanding experts is the best thing you can do to improve the domestic life of an allergy sufferer. Use rugs instead of carpets, which can be easily taken out and washed thoroughly.
